The MAHOU CHABUDAI is fit for a gothic teahouse on the moon. It’s style embodies that of an ancient ruin of the future. Something left behind yet waiting to be discovered. The base of the table is inspired by my love for futuristic bridge design. Its structure bridges the space between the people accompanying its span. MAHOU, the Japanese word for MAGIC or sorcery, is a word I use often in my work to embody a certain energy felt when imaging and building the silhouettes I want to create. Mahō no Hashi = Magical Bridge.
Each piece of this collection is designed to hold both the body and imagination. Honoring Japanese tea culture and brutalist restraint, this chabudai is simultaneously grounded and otherworldly. Its GFR Concrete top is designed specifically to host a ceremonial tea practice and includes a built in run off drain for waste water. Kensui not included.
